Dear Shipmates,
Hope this finds everyone in good health and making plans
to attend the reunion in September. Our website has really
been a big help in locating new people, and for members
to locate and communicate with old shipmates. If you haven't
signed the log please do so, you may have shipmates looking
for you.
We now have a ships store section on the website (thanks
Sue) which has pictures and prices of items we have for
sale. A new item is a 48x68 tapestry with the ships picture,
price is $45.00 each including postage.
Airlines into Springfield are American, Delta, Northwest
and United, direct flights are available from Chicago, Cincinnati,
Dallas/Ft. Worth, Denver, Detroit, Memphis, Minneapolis
and St. Louis. Temperature in September in Springfield is
high 76-85, low 5262. Hotel has complimentary transportation
from and to the airport. Hotel is the Clarion Hotel, Springfield,
MO they have a 24-hour cancellation policy, rate is $62.95,
for reservations call 1-800-756-7318.
Harold and Carol Ferguson are bringing their musical intruments
to entertain us in the hospitality suite as time permits,
so if you have musical talent please bring your instruments
and join in.
On Friday 23, September we will visit the Fantastic underground
caverns, the Bass Pro Shop and the Wonders of wildlife museum.
On Saturday 24 September we will attend 2 shows in Branson
(includes lunch) first we attend the Hughes Brothers celebrity
theatre at 1000, have lunch at 12:30 then attend the Delene
show at 1430 both shows are in the same building.
There are over 100 shows in Branson so its very difficult
to make choices that would please everyone, also show times
locations and travel make it difficult to schedule large
groups.
We don't have any group activities scheduled for Sunday
25 September since people will be tired from the 2 previous
days activities. Brochures on all the above will be sent
to you when I receive your sign up form. Hopefully most
people will come early and attend other shows in Branson.
There will be racks in the hotel lobby with brochures of
all Branson shows and sights.
Portland Reunion Books are being mailed this month.
Anyone interested in playing golf on Thursday 23 September
call Clyde Williams at 417-833-1717 or e-mail chwms37@peoplepc.com.
Tom and I are ready for reliefs, so be thinking of nominations
for our jobs at the business meeting. We won't drop everything
on you at once, we will work with you as long as necessary.

CHAPLAINS CORNER
Greetings Shipmates,
Spring is now upon us. Loree and I have been working on
the flower gardens as well as my vegetable garden. We have
had a wonderful year so far. Everyone in our family has
been healthy, and we are thankful for that blessing. The
children and grandsons spent a few days with us during spring
break in March. We really enjoyed their stay.
As I prepared this letter, I began to think about how we
are never alone. God's faithfulness assures us in Hebrews
13:5- "I will never leave you or forsake you".
One of the greatest treasures we have as Christians is the
abiding presence of God. He has promised to always be with
us. And declares that he will meet us each new day to guide
us forward. He watches over us while we sleep and always
is listening for our faintest cry. He stands ready to bring
refreshing to our souls in the midst of drought and despair.
What a wonderful Savior and Provider we have for all our
lives. And he loves us too much to leave us alone as his
work declares.
I hope that everyone has begun to make plans for our annual
Parks Reunion to be held in Springfield, Missouri. I know
that our reunions planning committee has got a fun filled
week lined up for us. Each year the reunion brings together
old shipmates as well as new ones.
