USS FLOYD B. PARKS (DD 884) ASSOCIATION

President

Jim Smith

I enlisted in 1970, and Parks was my first and best ship. I also served on the Orleck DD886, the Somers DDG34, and did a tour as an electronics and tactics instructor at the sonar school in San Diego.  I left the Navy in 1980 as an STG1, after making STG2 twice without a break in service.  I went to law school at the University of California, and was commissioned in the Army Judge Advocate Corps on July 4th, 1984. I retired as the oldest (not most senior) Army JAG Major in 1999. Since 2001 I have been honored to be an instructor at one of the nation’s best 2 year Peace Officer training programs at Alexandria Technical and Community College, in West Central Minnesota.
