Harry W. Brantley

 

Harry joined the Navy in April of 1947 and went
to boot camp and Yeoman "A" School in  San
Diego. He served briefly in BuPers in Washington
and reported aboard his first ship  the small seaplane
tender USS VALCOUR AVP-55 in August 1948. 
  
He served aboard  32 months during which time 
VALCOUR was converted to a Flagship and made
two deployments as  COMMIDEASTFORCE flagship.
He then served aboard USS MIDWAY CVB-41,
attended Yeoman "B" School, and was assigned
to the Staff of Commander Naval Forces Germany in
Heidelberg, first in Operations, then as Flag
Writer. He served in the Joint Chiefs of Staff,
The Pentagon for four years in Special Intelligence.
His next  tour was with Officer in Charge of Construction,
in Madrid, Spain where the Navy's Bureau of Yards
and Docks  had oversight of base construction.  From 
there he served four years at Fleet Sonar School in
Key West, Florida. He  reported aboard USS FLOYD
B. PARKS DD-884 in July of 1966 in  San Diego as
the Chief Yeoman. He made two  Vietnam deployments
and transferred to shore duty  as senior instructor at
Yeoman "A" School in San  Diego and as Career
Counseling Coordinator  at NTC, San Diego. He attended
the Defense Race Relations  Institute at Patrick AFB,
FL and was subsequently  assigned to the faculty
where he was an instructor from January 1973 - May 1977.
After one year at Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
he was ordered back to Patrick AFB where he retired
on 1 May 1979, as a Master Chief Yeoman, with 32
years of dedicated and faithful  service.
